In recent years, many churches have changed how they teach about faith. Instead of in-depth lessons about religious beliefs, and systematic doctrinal teaching they now focus on uplifting, motivational messages. This shift has far-reaching effects, both in churches and in society at large. In addition it has supplanted the primary role of church leaders – that of systematic teaching of congregants and significantly reduced workload plus appeased the requirement for congregants to devote time in gathering together.
What’s Happening in Churches:
- Less focus on detailed religious doctrinal teachings.
- More emphasis on feel-good messages and emotional experiences. Plus “itching ear messages.”
- Church leaders spending less time on deep study and complex religious ideas.
How This Affects People:
- Weaker Understanding of Faith: Many Christians now know less about the details of their beliefs. This can make it hard for them to deal with tough questions or explain their faith to others.
