In our quest to understand the profound nature of God’s salvation, we often resort to analogies. However, these comparisons often fall short of capturing the true essence of God’s grace. Let’s dive deeper into this transformative truth and explore why our salvation is entirely a work of God, with nothing contributed by human effort.

The Drowning Man – Beyond the Last Gasp.

Picture a man drowning in turbulent waters. We might imagine a scenario where a lifeline is thrown, dangling just within reach. The common analogy suggests that the choice to grab the lifeline rests with the drowning individual. But is this an accurate representation of our spiritual state?

In reality, we’re not gasping for our last breath. we’ve already succumbed to the depths. As the Apostle Paul starkly puts it, we were “dead in [our] transgressions and sins” (Ephesians 2:1, NIV). The biblical truth paints a more dire picture: we’ve gone down for the third and final time, lifeless at the bottom of the sea.

It’s in this state of complete helplessness that God intervenes. He doesn’t merely throw us a lifeline; He dives into the depths, breathes life into our lifeless form, and draws us up from the abyss.
