That’s a question that comes my way quite often.
This is something many Christians, whether they’re new in their faith or have been walking with the Lord for years, find themselves grappling with. In today’s world, we are surrounded by messages that tell us what we should value and who we should strive to be.
Society seems to have a constant, loud voice telling us that our worth is based on our success, popularity, and how well we fit into its ever-changing standards. Even within the church, it’s easy to get swept into this mindset.
In fact, many believers, both young and old often feel the pressure to “perform,” even in a spiritual context. Whether it’s how we serve others, how we pray, the sermons we preach, the way we lead worship or even the way we share our testimonies, we can fall into the trap of asking ourselves, “How do I look to people?” instead of “How am I serving and honouring God?”
This performance-based mentality doesn’t just affect new believers. It can also impact pastors, ministry leaders, and mature Christians who may unknowingly start to measure their value by how others perceive them rather than how faithful they are to God’s call.
